Abby's 1st Birthday Cake Smash

It’s been one year since we saw Abby here, and my has she grown so much!  A year ago she was a wiggly newborn and eager for a bottle between photos.  Today she is still wiggly, but on the verge of taking her first steps, and likes to clap and be silly at every chance.

For her First Birthday Cake Smash mom and dad (well, mostly mom) got Abby a butterfly decorated cake to celebrate.  After some time playing with (and popping) some balloons, it was time for cake.  Abby went straight for it!  Her side of the cake was in pieces and in her mouth in mere minutes, and with all the excitement, a few minutes later the whole cake toppled, but the sugar rush continued!

Happy Birthday to Abby, and can’t wait to see how much she’s grown in another year!

Baby Abby - Newborn Lifestyle Portraits

This past August, Madonna and Rubin welcomed their baby girl Abby into the world after an exciting 9 months of anticipation filled with lots of pink - you may remember their explosive pink smoke bomb baby reveal, and airport-themed waterfront maternity photos from not long ago.

For this photoshoot I took on a new-ish challenge, and captured some newborn photos of Abby.  Newborn photos aren’t a genre of photography I historically capture, and the timing on this wasn’t quite ideal, swooping in on the late-end of newborn portraits at 3 weeks due to me having COVID-19 at the same time Abby was born; Rubin and Donna deeply wanted me to be sure to capture Abby as her life began, so we made it happen once I was testing negative and it was safe for Abby.

Due to having to wait the extra time, Abby was definitely already exiting that peaceful and pliable newborn posing stage which lasts only around the first two weeks after birth; Abby is adorable, but just not having it with the peaceful curled newborn poses that are possible even just a week earlier - babies grow up quickly, which is why it’s important to capture every moment you can.

Madonna and Rubin - It’s a Girl

I’m admittedly a bit behind in sharing updates on many of my recent projects, and the last session I shared was Madonna and Rubin’s Fall Portrait Session when the leaves were in peak color; I think it’s fitting that the next update (and first post of 2023) is also with Madonna and Rubin as Spring sets in.

Spring brings bright colors, so what better way to celebrate the announcement that Madonna and Rubin are now expecting a baby girl this Summer!  We had a blast being artistic with colored smoke bombs, and the pairing cannot be more excited to welcome their new baby girl into the world.  She even has a pair of baby Crocs awaiting her to go adventuring with her excited and loving parents!

Outtakes

This was everyone’s first time playing with smoke bombs, and I have to say, religiously checking the weather was key and instrumental in ensuring the pictures came out as great as they did.  This day still had a bit more wind than I had wanted, but March is traditionally a rainy, windy month, so you do the best you can.  The smoke bombs were cooperative for the most part, but they weren’t without a few bloopers.

Adrianna: GMU Class of 2017

It's right around the corner!  Adrianna, a dear friend, hiking buddy, and sushi aficionado, is graduating from George Mason University with a degree in Microbiology this May!  Here she is looking cute in this plaid wrap that makes me think of places closer to the West coast.  I'm proud of ya girl!

The Shaw Family

The the airport community, the Shaws are well-known friendly faces; Joe recently retired from his many years with the Airports Authority, and Janene can still be found cruising the runways for Airport Operations.

This past weekend the Shaws joined me on the waterfront for some family portraits as Autumn rushes into the region.
